Website hosting & advice
Your website has to live somewhere. We help you choose the right hosting and get you set up – without the jargon.
Get in touchWhat is website hosting?
Hosting is where your website lives. Dozens of companies offer different packages and pricing, and it can be confusing. We help you understand the options and choose a setup that fits your site and your budget – then we can get you set up with a provider we trust.
What to consider when choosing hosting
Data transfer, protocol, shared vs dedicated – here’s what actually matters.
Data transfer
This is how much data your site can transfer in a month. There’s no single rule: a small site for a self-employed tradesperson might use around 2GB, while a small e-commerce store could use 6GB or more. Unoptimised images and self-hosted videos can push usage up quickly. We help you pick a package with enough headroom.
HTTP vs HTTP/2 vs HTTP/3
These protocols affect how fast data moves from the server to the visitor’s browser. Budget hosting often uses older, slower HTTP. We recommend at least HTTP/2; HTTP/3 is faster still and available at reasonable prices. Faster hosting usually means a better experience and better ROI – nobody likes waiting for a page to load.
Shared vs dedicated hosting
Shared hosting is the cheapest option but we generally avoid it for business sites – you’re on a server with hundreds of others and sometimes sharing an IP. If your website runs your business, we recommend dedicated hosting (or at least a dedicated IP): you get a server to yourself, better performance and more control.
Pricing
You can find hosting from under £5 a month – but it’s cheap for a reason. Spend more and you get better hardware, faster load times and a better return on investment. Get in touch and we’ll help you pick the right package and get you set up.
WordPress hosting
WordPress has become the go-to for many sites – flexible, affordable and easy to manage.
Originally an open-source blogging platform, WordPress now powers everything from booking systems to full e-commerce stores. Specialist WordPress hosting is available with optimised installs, faster load times and a better experience. If you’re on WordPress (or planning to be), we can point you at the right hosting for it.
Reliable hosting companies we recommend
We don’t run our own servers – we’d rather you benefit from specialists who do.
We’re happy to set up your hosting with one of the providers we’ve used for years: A2 Hosting, Heart Internet and IONOS. They’re market leaders with a wide range of options – from dedicated WordPress hosting to HTTP/3 and fast NVMe storage – plus reliable uptime and solid support. Hosting is one of those things we believe is best left to the big players; we help you choose and get configured so your site stays fast and online.
